You aren't paying enough

I went through a bit of a struggle to make it happen, but Race for the App is finally in the App Store. I didn't complain about it here as I did previously, but it was almost as much of a hassle. I think it was worth it because, hey, free apps!

But that's not primarily what this post is about. It's about what an experienced iOS developer thinks when he sees jobs like this come across his RSS feed:

The work will be developing apps for the Apple I-Pad. Looking for a couple experienced Apple IOS (C sharp) development resources

There are two kinds of people who post that kind of ad: those who don't know what they're doing and won't pay you what you're worth, and people who have so much money that they don't have to even care how wrong it is.

I prefer working for the last kind of person, of course. I understand that not everyone knows technology as well as I do, so you can do things like call flash memory "RAM", ObjC "C sharp" (not even C#, mind you, but full hooked-on-phonics-level job listing error!), or make any number of other mistakes. Pay me enough, and I won't even bother to correct you if you really don't mind what other people think.

But people who know me will tell you I'm not a greedy person. I don't need a lot of money, or even want a lot of money, as long as the work environment is sensible. So, call me crazy, but I'm not chasing after the aforementioned "depending on experience" pay for "I-Pad" work on the mere hope that it'll be north of $200K. I would be happy to hear about an island of sanity at a quarter the price, though.
